Round of 16 · Match #7 · Court 5 · Sat, Aug 8, 4:06 PM

Summary

Shirsat and Fernandes Turn 9-6 Downside Into a Straight-Games Win

Avinash Bhat and Chinmay Kamat were three points from a first-game fight at 9-6, but Divyesh Shirsat and Fredrick Fernandes changed the match from there, winning nine of the next 10 rallies to take the opener 15-10 on Court 5.

That recovery was the decisive passage. The sixth-seeded pair had trailed by as many as three, yet their comeback data records that deficit as fully overcome while showing no surrendered lead. Bhat and Kamat briefly levelled the game at 10-10, but Shirsat and Fernandes answered with five of the next six points.

The second game offered less separation but the same ending. Shirsat and Fernandes opened 3-0 ahead, reached the interval at 8-3, and still faced a late challenge when Bhat and Kamat moved from 10-12 to 12-11. The score returned to 14-14 before the seeded pair claimed the final two rallies for a 16-14 finish.

The most revealing number sits in the pressure points: Shirsat and Fernandes won nine of 13 clutch rallies, compared with four for Bhat and Kamat. They also won 31 points to 24 overall, including a 16-9 edge on serve. In a 26-minute match, the difference was not a long decider but the response whenever the scoreboard tightened. Shirsat and Fernandes advance from the Round of 16 with a 15-10, 16-14 victory.
