Astha Poudel vs Amaira Dhumatker

Round of 16 · Match #2 · Court 1 · Fri, Aug 7, 7:30 PM

Summary

Amaira Dhumatker Turns Two Tight Games Into a Straight-Game Win

Astha Poudel led 9–5 in the opening game, but Amaira Dhumatker transformed the match’s first real opening into a 15–11 win. From 9–9, Dhumatker claimed six of the next seven rallies, including the final four, to take control after 16 minutes on Court 1.

Poudel had started strongly, building a 3–1 lead and later moving 8–5 ahead. Dhumatker’s three-point comeback was the largest deficit overcome recorded for either player, and it mattered most when the game tightened: she won eight of the 10 tracked clutch rallies, compared with Poudel’s two.

The second game followed a similar pattern but with an even sharper opening swing. Dhumatker raced to 4–0, only for Poudel to win six straight rallies and lead 6–4. Poudel reached 8–5, yet Dhumatker levelled at 8–8 and then finished with seven of the last nine rallies for a 15–10 game and a 2–0 match victory.

The less obvious pattern came after the intervals. Dhumatker won eight of the nine tracked rallies after them, while Poudel won only one. That late-game separation explains how both close games ended with five-point margins. Dhumatker advances from the Round of 16; Poudel’s best phases were not enough to survive the closing runs.
