Gauri Sawant turned a level first game into a statement win, beating fourth seed Aditi Chodankar 15-12, 15-8 in 16 minutes on Court 2.
The opening game repeatedly changed hands early, reaching 4-4 before Sawant made the first meaningful move with three straight rallies for a 7-4 lead.
