Aditi Chodankar vs Gauri Sawant

Round of 16 · Match #3 · Court 2 · Fri, Aug 7, 6:18 PM

Summary

Gauri Sawant’s Seven-Rally Surge Sends Fourth Seed Aditi Chodankar Out

Gauri Sawant turned a level first game into a statement win, beating fourth seed Aditi Chodankar 15-12, 15-8 in 16 minutes on Court 2.

The opening game repeatedly changed hands early, reaching 4-4 before Sawant made the first meaningful move with three straight rallies for a 7-4 lead. Chodankar answered with a three-rally run of her own and later erased a 10-7 deficit to level at 10-10. The game was still tied at 12-12, but Sawant closed with the final three rallies.

That finish set the pattern. Sawant opened the second game 3-1 ahead, and Chodankar again recovered, drawing level at 8-8. This time, however, Sawant produced the decisive burst: seven consecutive rallies carried her from 8-8 to 15-8 and ended the match.

The less obvious margin was Sawant’s performance when the score tightened. She won seven of nine classified clutch rallies, compared with two of nine for Chodankar. Her seven-rally finishing streak was also the match’s longest; Chodankar’s best was three. Sawant won 15 of 20 points when receiving and 15 of 30 on serve, while Chodankar won 15 of 30 receiving points but only five of 20 on serve.

Chodankar’s rallies made both games competitive, but Sawant consistently owned the closing passages. The unseeded winner advances from the Round of 16 after a 30-point performance that never required a decider.
