Anjana Kumari and Sufiya Shaikh Take the Women’s Doubles Title After Two Deciders

Anjana Kumari and Sufiya Shaikh finished the Women’s Doubles draw unbeaten, defeating top seeds Riya Haldankar and Yasmin Sayed in a three-game final recorded at 5:47 pm on 9 August. The No. 2 pair won 42 points to 35 and took the deciding game, completing a 6–2 games record across three matches and 84 minutes on court.

The eight-pair knockout began with one walkover, sending the No. 1 seeds past Adhira Jadhav and Elena Fernandes without a played rally. On court, No. 5 Anar Singbal and Neha Sahakari eliminated No. 4 Saba Shaikh and Tabassum Shaikh 2–0, overcoming a four-point deficit. No. 3 Shivanjali Thite and Shreya Mehta then edged No. 6 Niharika Parwar and Synnovia Dsouza in a deciding game, with only three points separating the pairs across the match. Anjana and Sufiya beat Nidhi Nair and Preeti Papshetty 2–0, winning 30 of 40 points.

The semifinals reshaped the draw’s expected order. Riya and Yasmin beat the fifth seeds 2–0, while Anjana and Sufiya needed 35 minutes and three games to get past the third seeds, 39 points to 32. That was the longest match of the event, and it set up a final in which another decider awaited.

The shape is telling: all three matches involving the champions were wins, but two required a deciding game—and both went their way. With 160 minutes of play across seven completed matches, the title belonged to the pair that repeatedly survived the tightest late-round tests.
