Rutav Kanabar vs Sushil Nayak
Round of 16 · Match #7 · Court 2 · Sat, Aug 8, 5:30 PM
Summary
Sushil Nayak Survives Rutav Kanabar’s Fightback to Win in Three
Sushil Nayak opened with a 3–0 lead, but Rutav Kanabar repeatedly pulled the match back before the eighth seed secured a 15–11, 13–15, 15–10 win on Court 2.
Nayak controlled the first game after Kanabar levelled it at 4–4 and 5–5. A 7–7 score became 9–7, then 11–8, and Nayak closed the game 15–11. Kanabar answered in the second, moving from 5–5 to 8–6, only for Nayak to reel him back to 8–8 and then 10–10. The game stayed level through 13–13 before Kanabar took the final two rallies.
The deciding game turned on its opening. Nayak won the first five rallies for a 5–0 advantage and reached the interval at 8–3. Kanabar’s best run followed: four straight rallies narrowed the gap to 8–10. Nayak immediately answered with four in a row, moving to 14–8, and finished at 15–10.
The less obvious edge was Nayak’s response after the intervals. He won 11 of 15 rallies after them, compared with seven of 15 before them. Kanabar went the other way, winning eight before intervals but only four afterward. That split helps explain why Kanabar could stay close in the middle of games yet Nayak repeatedly restored control.
The 36-minute match ended with Nayak taking the decider, while Kanabar’s second-game recovery made sure the eighth seed had to earn his place in the next round.
