Shloke Utagi vs Akshat Dodiya

Round of 16 · Match #5 · Court 5 · Fri, Aug 7, 4:45 PM

Summary

Shloke Utagi Turns a Tight Start Into a Straight-Game Win

Akshat Dodiya led 2-1 early, but Shloke Utagi quickly changed the shape of their Round of 16 match on Court 5. Utagi answered with five straight rallies to move 6-3 ahead, then reached the interval at 8-5. From there, a seven-rally burst carried him to 13-5 and put the first game beyond Akshat’s reach, despite a late three-point response. Utagi closed it 15-9 after 24 rallies.

The second game began more evenly, with Utagi taking a 2-0 lead before Akshat narrowed it to 3-2. The decisive stretch came after 6-4: Utagi won six of the next seven rallies, including three in a row after the interval, to establish a 12-5 advantage. Akshat added one more point, but Utagi finished the game 15-6 and the match in 13 minutes.

The less obvious separator was Utagi’s control after the interval. He won seven of nine rallies in those post-interval phases, compared with five of nine beforehand. Across the match, he also won 19 of 30 points on his serve and gave Akshat only two consecutive points at his longest. Akshat still took 11 of 15 receiving points and won five of 11 clutch rallies, but could not turn those moments into a sustained run.

Utagi advances from the Round of 16 with a 15-9, 15-6 victory. Akshat’s strongest passages came in short bursts; Utagi’s came in the stretches that decided both games.
