Shloke Utagi Reaches Round Four After Beating the No. 2 Seed
Shloke Utagi’s tournament turned on a 15–12, 15–9 win over second-seeded Aariketh Chari in the third round of the U11 Boys’ Singles. It was the biggest scalp in a four-match campaign that began with a clean 15–9, 15–6 victory over Akshat Dodiya on 7 August, taking 13 minutes and 30 points for Utagi.
The next day brought a tighter test against fourth-seeded Mahipal Sinh Parmar. Utagi won 15–13 and 16–14 in 19 minutes, overcoming a maximum eight-point deficit recorded during the match. After 261 minutes of rest, he returned on 9 August to beat Chari in 15 minutes, again in straight games.
His campaign ended in round four against Sharv Shenvi, 6–15, 5–15. That match lasted 12 minutes. Across the event, Utagi finished 3–1, scoring 102 points to 93 against and spending 59 minutes on court.
The rally detail reveals a sharp split: Utagi won 54 of 103 points on his serve across the tournament, but in the final match he won none of 12. He still won 11 of 29 receiving points, making the serve collapse the clearest statistical change in his only loss. Overall, he won 22 of 39 points after intervals, slightly better than his 19 of 39 before them. The run ended in round four, but it included the tournament’s most notable singles win.
