Summary

Rafael Anacleto De Ataide Turns Final After Losing the First Game

Divyam Singh led 1-0, but Rafael Anacleto De Ataide won the U9 Boys' Singles final on Court 6 by reversing the match's direction in the next two games: 12-15, 15-8, 15-11.

Singh opened by recovering from 2-5 down with a seven-rally run to move 9-5 ahead. Rafael briefly narrowed the gap, then Singh restored a 14-12 lead and closed the game at 15-12. That opening, however, was the only game in which Singh won more rallies: 15 to Rafael's 12.

Rafael answered immediately in game two. He took the first two rallies, stayed ahead through 8-6, and then produced the decisive burst after the interval, winning six straight rallies to turn 6-8 into 12-6. Singh could add only two more points as Rafael levelled the match 15-8.

The decider began with Singh ahead 2-0, but Rafael then won six consecutive rallies and led 8-2 at the interval. Singh's late response was substantial, a five-rally run taking him from 6-14 to 11-14, yet Rafael stopped the recovery on the next rally.

The less obvious edge was how consistently Rafael started games: he won 10 of the 15 game-opening rallies, compared with Singh's five. He also won 24 of 41 points on his serve and finished with 42 points overall to Singh's 34. After 25 minutes, Rafael had turned a first-game loss into a final victory.
