Nishant Shenai vs Rahul Deswal
Quarterfinal · Match #9 · Court 1 · Sat, Aug 8, 8:19 PM
Summary
Nishant Shenai rallies from a first-game loss to beat Rahul Deswal 2–1
Rahul Deswal took the opening game 15–10, but Nishant Shenai changed the match immediately after it. Shenai opened the second game with four straight rallies and never gave back the lead, levelling the quarterfinal with a 15–9 win before repeating that score in the decider.
The first game had belonged to Deswal after an even 3–3 start. He moved 8–4 ahead and reached 14–8, surviving a late three-rally response from Shenai before closing it out. The second game was different: Shenai’s 4–0 start became 6–1, and although Deswal pulled to 6–3 and later 11–8, Shenai answered with the next two points and finished 15–9.
The deciding game was closer early. Deswal led 5–3, but Shenai levelled at 5–5 and then turned 6–7 into an 8–7 lead. After the interval, Shenai won three of the next four rallies to move 11–8, then took four of the last five points. The final game was decided by that 5–0 closing burst from 9–9 to 14–9, not by the opening exchange.
One less obvious detail is how sharply the match changed at the start of games: Shenai won 9 of the 15 game-opening rallies, compared with Deswal’s six. The rally analytics also record Shenai winning 10 of 14 clutch rallies, while Deswal won four. Over 42 minutes, the top seed turned a 10–15 opening setback into a 40–33 points victory and advanced.
