Summary

Nishant Shenai Completes Four-Match Singles Run Without Dropping a Round

Nishant Shenai’s tournament ended with the No. 2 seed still searching for a game. The top seed beat Arjun Bhagat 15-12, 16-14 in the Men’s Singles final round at Navelim, completing a four-match, unbeaten campaign and the tournament’s biggest scalp in the process.

Shenai began on 8 August with a 21-minute straight-games win over Sahil Sayed, 15-10, 15-11. After 154 minutes between matches, he faced Rahul Deswal and had to recover from a first-game loss: Deswal took it 15-10, but Shenai answered 15-9, 15-9 in a 42-minute decider. That was his only three-game match, and his only game lost.

The next day brought a 286-minute gap before an 18-minute win over third seed Soham Naik, 15-6, 15-13. Shenai then waited another 220 minutes on average before the final round, where he overcame second seed Arjun Bhagat in 27 minutes. Across 108 minutes on court, he scored 131 points and conceded 99.

The rally detail reveals a less obvious pattern than the clean record: Shenai was stronger after intervals, winning 26 of 42 rallies after them compared with 22 of 42 before them. He also won 60 of 103 points when receiving, narrowly better than his 71 of 127 on serve, while his biggest deficit overcome was five points against Bhagat.

With four wins, one decider victory and no walkovers or retirements, Shenai’s completed campaign finished at the top of this singles draw.
